Re-Elect Dana to the Solano County Board of Education

I am pleased to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Solano County Board of Education as Trustee for Area 3. After 5 years on the Board, I am proud of the work we have done and excited for the opportunity to continue to lead our education community in critically needed support for all of our children.

My highest priorities are:

A Safe Place to Learn and a Safe Place to Teach – Nothing could be more important than ensuring our children have a safe and secure environment in which to learn and grow into contributing, content adults. Our greatest responsibility is to keep our kids safe from bullying, harassment, and school site violence. In modern times that means, among other things, adopting programs that anticipate and resolve potential conflicts before damage is done.

Opportunities for Every Student – All children, no matter their circumstances, deserve opportunities to succeed in ways that work for them. Programs that offer support and challenges as varied as our students are critical. Seeking out innovations in those programs that help meet our students’ diverse needs in the ever-changing 21st century is equally important to preparing our students for a bright future.

Fairness and Transparency – Parents, students, and staff are entitled to know what is expected of them. Our systems of education and governance can’t be a mystery to the people that rely on them. Administrations and governance teams, - County Board members in particular - have an important responsibility to communicate clearly with our constituents, to govern fairly and equitably, and to do so in an open and transparent manner that favors public understanding and encourages participation.

Advocacy for Education We’ve made progress by allowing for more self-determination in the past few years with the adoption of the Local Control Accountability Plan and Local Control Funding Formula. But making better choices with the limited funds we have is not nearly enough. We simply need more funding. It is not okay that in California, which boasts the 5th largest economy in the world, our schools still rank among the lowest in per student funding in the entire country. Advocating for more funding for our students is one of my on-going priorities.

It has been my great honor to serve as your Trustee for the past five years and I am excited for the chance to do more good work. I am deeply humbled by the early support and endorsements from so many dedicated leaders from our region and around the state. Thank you all for your consideration and support.
